DPF filter removal from the EURO 6 truck exhaust system
DPF filter (Diesel Particulate Filter) is a device designed to clear exhaust gasses that integrated into the exhaust system. It removes particulate matter or soot. All modern diesel engines have DPF.
Two types of DPF exists. Single-use DPF and regeneratable DPF. You need to replace single-use DPF regularly. Regeneratable DPF replenishes itself regularly.
In order for regeneration to work correctly engine needs to start working properly. Exhaust gas temperature is increased in order to burn particles.
Some vehicles needs speed higher than 64 km/h to start this process. Some vehicles support parked regeneration. Engine runs in higher RPM even in park mode.
DPF filters and AdBlue emulators
DPF filter should be removed if you are going to use AdBlue Emulator in EURO 6 Engine. Becuase change in the engine affects exhaust system. DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid like AdBlue) is stopped using. This prevents exhaust gas to be cleaned. The engine cannot start regeneration process. This may clog the filter and this can happen in the middle of the long trip. To avoid this, it is recommended to remove this filters from EURO 6 truck.
Remove DPF from EURO 6 truck
- DPF removal is trivial. First, wait until everything cools down.
- Then locate and remove diesel particulate filter cover. Exhaust system module is there.
- Remove DPF. Nothing special is required.
- Close it and bring it back to the original sate.
These are the images of DPF removing process caried on Volvo EURO6 truck, but it is more or less is the same on the other trucks.
